Post delivery rescue remedies I swear by!

January 16, 2019

Hey New and Seasoned Mamas! Congratulations on your little bundles of love! I wanted to write up a helpful post on recovery as I found these to really help me. Unfortunately I am of little help with post op recovery as I haven’t experienced a c-section but I am hoping that I can help spread my experiences to those of you reading and even if a natural delivery wasn’t experienced, some of these tips are still very helpful to everyone.

Witch Hazel (Padsicles):

This one thing will make recovery so much better I promise. Witch hazel is known for its healing properties and

What you want to do is pick up a bottle of Witch Hazel from the Pharmacy and a pack of pads. Soak the pads in witch hazel then place them side by side in a freezer bag and into the freezer. I did this a week before my due date so I would have them on hand once our angel arrived and man was I ever relieved to use them. The combination of the cold compress and healing potion helped bring me back to feeling human again.

*** Just recently found out that Witch Hazel can actually break down stitches. If you end up getting stitches, chat with your health care provider before using Witch Hazel.

Sitz bath teas:

Not only are hot baths very soothing after delivery but adding in a sitz bath tea to the water has amazing healing properties. If you don’t have a bath tub, this can also be added to your peri bottle (hospital supplies these ****don’t forget to take this home) and used directly.

Tucks hemorrhoid pads:

These also provide cooling relief to pain and itching down south. These combined with the witch hazel pads (use them separately) are unbelievably amazing.

Dermoplast spray:

Okay so this product is one I haven’t tried myself but I have heard nothing but the best reviews about it from other post delivery moms and is supposed to be amazing when needing instant relief from itching and pain while healing. It is not available in Canada but if you get the chance to pop over the boarder before your delivery date, then I would try this amazing spray out for extra relief!

Cabbage leaves:

I still remember my recovery after having my first child and how much and breasts ached. I told my husband that I wanted to head to the hospital and donate my milk because the pain of engorgement was in bearable. My midwives suggested throwing cabbage leaves into the freezer and then into my bra and did it ever work!!!

Nipple Gel pads:

These provide immediate cooling and soothing results to help heal tired nipples so that you can continue nursing in comfort.

Nipple cream:

More relief for those exhausted nipples! I couldn’t get over how hard my baby latched on and feed when I was a first time mom and having a little cream to help repair them was nice to have on hand.

Stool softener:

The first bowel movement after delivery hurts like a mother…. If you take a stool softener before and after it will really help soften things so you can pass this part a little more comfortably.

Magnesium Oil Spray:

There is soooo much about this spray that I LOVE but I have included it on this list to help with a more restful sleep when you final get a little and to help relieve sore muscles and tension in your body. Like a friend once said, its like a warm hug… and I could have described it better myself!

A little added tip for the months leading up to delivery….

I can thank my mom for this helpful tip as I never suffered from cracked or bleeding nipples. When your in the shower, take a wash cloth or soft loafa ball and rub your nipples a few times. This helps toughen up the skin so they will be ready for your hungry baby. if you take anything from this article, please take this one tip. It will help save you from a lot of discomfort once your baby is here 🙂
